The Early Initiation Advantages of Physical Therapy in Multiple Sclerosis—A Pilot Study

(1) Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic progressive neurological disorder which affects the central nervous system (CNS), can result in disorders of all functions controlled by CNS: motor, sensory, cognitive and emotional. Physical therapy (PT), conducted through proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) techniques, be customized to individual patient’s needs has potential improve evolution. This study aims establish if PT based on PNF techniques beneficial role MS treatment. (2) Methods: We performed prospective 40 patients who were diagnosed with previously treated only drug treatment (DT). These have participated program throughout one year. At beginning at end our study, after year, we assessed following parameters: timed walk for 25 feet (Timed 25-Foot Walk test- T25FW test), dexterity upper limbs (9-Hole Peg Test—9HPT), disability level (Expanded Disability Status Scale—EDSS) function (Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test—PASAT. (3) Results: In subjects early stages MS, lower limb mobility improved significantly, decreasing from 6.46 5.80 (p < 0.001) ability increased significantly dominant hand, 9HPT 17.73 16.97 = 0.006) not non-dominant 17.50 0.255).
